It’s that time. I normally update my own website about once every 2 or 3 years but this year you will see a noticeable difference in websites that you need to pay attention to. This has been a digital age since 2010 but now companies are getting savvier when it comes to competing for your customers. It’s time you stepped your business website game up before your company is lost in the fog.  Below are a few tips; this is what your customers need to see from your site in 2015.

• Organization

Social Media TodayHome pages and landing pages need to be better organized. Try using cells with images and short descriptions to grab your online users attention.   Using grids are a great way to organize your web pages. Please see the example from Social Media Today.   The page isn’t over crowded, they utilized their white space well, while at the same time including log in information and an ad.

• Make it easy to find your contact info

Contact Info on your websiteYour contact information should be visible on every page of your website. You will still need the “contact us” page but don’t make your users go there to get in touch with you. Sometimes a customer will see what they need on a specific page and want to call you immediately. Don’t take the chance that they could get lost or distracted in the mix trying to find the contact page. The image here is an example from my website.  My phone number & email are clickable links at the top of every page of the site that allows users to either email or call with one click.

• Use Online Forms because attachments are dead

Web forms for your websiteIf you are still using pdf forms as your way of collecting information you are losing customers. Giving users too many steps to send information will cause potential customers to lose interest and go somewhere else. There are several different online form apps you can utilize for online data collection. We use Abode’s FormsCentral to create our online forms from scratch.  The forms are clean, can be designed with your brand colors, logo and totally customized to your business needs.  Forms are embeded in your site and an email is sent as soon as the form has been submitted.  See an example of one of our forms on the left.

• Focus on Key Products, Services, or Components

Using a grid to organize product by popularityEvery home page should introduce users to your company and what it has to offer. Using a grid like format for your home page can allow you to introduce your most important or popular services / products by utilizing images and text to draw in the users attention. This is helpful if your company offers a number of different services or products.  If you use Woo-commerce you can set items to filter automatically by the most popular products sold or the newest added to the site.

Grid FormattingYou can also use this same grid format to inform your users of  the services your company offers or the most popular news posts from your blog.  By using organized grids your company can spotlight your most sought after posts, services and specials, giving users what they are looking for.

• Mobile Friendly

If you are using WordPress as your platform for editing your website, there are several ways to ensure your site is Mobile friendly.  The first being to find a responsive template.   This first tip is the best and easiest way to ensure your website can be viewed on mobile devices but there are others.  If you are not ready to change your company template and need another way to make your site responsive, below is a list of WordPress Plugins that can be used to convert your current site. Wordpress Plugins that make your site responsive

Users visit sites at the spur of the moment which means the first time they visit your company website can very well be from a mobile device.   Users are not going mobile, they are mobile.  They are researching companies, comparing products, and purchasing directly from their mobile devices.  Businesses can’t take a chance of missing out on potential customers.
