Last Minute, Inexpensive or Free Mother’s Day Gift Suggestions

May 06, 11 Last Minute, Inexpensive or Free Mother’s Day Gift Suggestions

Me and My DaughterMother’s Day is Sunday and up until now you may not have really thought about what to get your mom and now it’s getting late… Last minute gifts aren’t the best and as a mother of two late teen sons and a 21-year-old daughter… I have gone several Mother’s Days with out a gift at all… I am usually told Happy Mother’s Day and then they cook breakfast and we all eat it in my bed together.  After that we are off to spend the day with my mom.

So for all you children, husbands, boyfriends, grand children and anyone else who should be doing something special for the mother figure in your life.  Yes the economy sucks this year and most Moms will be happy with something simple.  Below are suggestions for those of you who just can’t afford the extra expense of buying your special lady a gift:

1.              Clean the house
2.              Weed the flower garden
3.              Give her Breakfast in Bed (this is what my special 3 do for me)
4.              Cook dinner
5.              Do ALL the laundry
6.              Plan a walk in her favorite park or scenic area
7.              Have movie time together watching Moms favorite movie
8.              Write your Mother an appreciation letter/poem

If you want to do something quick and only have a little bit of money, try some of the follow:

1.              A framed picture or picture collage of you or your family
2.              Wal-Mart often has flower bouquets for under $20
3.              Potted plants
4.              Potted perennials that can be put in the garden
5.              Go to the movies
6.              Victoria Secrets / Bath & Body Works Lotions & Body Wash
7.              Take her out to breakfme and my sonsast
8.              Make your own wine and cheese basket
9.              Make your own fruit basket
10.          A steak and shrimp dinner cooked at home

If you are anything like me… I don’t need to be taken out to an expensive dinner or any type of outing.  I love sports and Mother’s Day always falls during the NBA playoffs.  (Go Celtics) I would love to have Diamonds, a new Coach Purse, a new pair of strappy heels or the official Boston Celtics Warm ups… but I will be happy with watching the games with my family, eating fried catfish & coleslaw, with a bottle of water and Bare Foot Moscato.

Happy Mother’s Day!

#iRip and Save your Lost Music

Apr 29, 11 #iRip and Save your Lost Music

A few months ago one of my external hard drives crashed and I lost over 3500 iTunes files. Can you imagine losing that much music? My music library is pretty extensive meaning I have spent a lot of money purchasing music on iTunes.

Luckily a lot of my music was also on my sons iPod but if you are familiar with iTunes you know you can’t pull music from your devices back into your music library on your computer.

iRip solves this dilemma. I found this app the same day I lost my music. It allows you to import your music from your iPod and put it back into your iTunes music library on your computer. I love it. The music doesn’t import perfectly, songs that don’t have titles or meta data will most likely just repeat but for that music I actually purchased… iRip saved me a lot of money and a lot of heartache.

Give it a try and let me know what you thought.  You can download iRip from the little app factory.

Social Media… It isn’t a Fad… It is the Norm!

If you haven’t already noticed… this social media “Fad” is no longer a Fad and has become the norm.As an Internet Marketer and Social Media Manager it is my job to stay on top of what is happening on social media platforms, blogs and readers. Christmas, New Years, and New Years Day were no exception… I know blasphemous right? I was on my social media platforms ready to share information and engage with those who were interested… but guess what I found… the social media marketers and managers were not the only ones online. I have a Facebook friend base of 1800+, most of which are just friends with no business need to market on social media platforms… and during the holidays they were talking; actually they were talking even more than normal. Maybe it was because they didn’t have to go to work, they were relaxing or enjoying the Holiday Season. I’m not sure but I do know, they were sharing what they were doing, the funny events of the day, sending holiday greetings, and sharing new years resolutions…

In 2010, being social on the Internet has become the norm. Yeah you still have a few Nay Sayers who refuse to get on social networking platforms, who have professed that twitter and Facebook are for kids but more people are now giving social media platforms a second look.Being drawn to these platforms out of curiosity, they want to see what everyone else is talking about. I have spoken to many friends who say they no longer use their email to communicate because it is quicker to connect on social media platforms or to simply send a text.

I think it is a sign of the times when people come to visit my house or office and the question everyone seems to have in common when they get there is, “What is your WEP code?”So with all this said, is tweeting during a family gathering rude or acceptable? Is bringing your laptop, iPad, iPod, or Tablet to a family gathering a bad thing? I say NO.Everyone knows I travel with my laptop, connectivity is important to me. With my family, this is acceptable. It is nothing for you to see at least 3 or 4 laptops open at the table after Christmas Dinner. We get on Facebook, share our photo albums with each other and laugh. Even my oldest Uncle has a Facebook account that he uses regularly… and he is what… at least 70…. lol. (Don’t kill me Uncle David, I really don’t know how old you are but I know you are close). My point is, Social Media Sharing is the norm and as we become an even more social society… don’t be offended when friends and family ask you for your WEP code or you see them using their digital devices. They are just sharing.
