20k Underage Facebook Accounts Banned a Day
I originally read this story on TheNextWeb.com
I have been using Facebook since 2008. I was a little late coming to the game and in the beginning only came on to see what my kids were doing. What was this new tool kids found so engrossing? After setting up my first account (incorrectly I might add) I found that this could be a great tool to help promote my services. I also found that there were a lot of other reasons people were using Facebook. Some were using it to date, some were using it to catch up with old friends, others were using it for exactly what it is a social platform. There were also those that were using it as a means to stalk and then child predators were using it to get to children.
I am glad Facebook has an age limit. I honestly think they should raise the age limit to 16 instead of the current 13. I am also glad that Facebook is stepping up their efforts to keep children safe by hiring a Cybersafety expert to assist in this effort. Currently Facebook Bans up to 20k underage accounts a day.
What do you think about children on Facebook? Should their be an age ban? is 13 really old enough to subject your children to some of the things you have experienced on Facebook?

Building Organic Brand Recognition on Facebook
Recently a company I was doing Social Media Marketing for was banned from continuing their pay per click advertising on Facebook. As a social media marketer, I panicked… the growth and recognition this page was getting from their ad was very positive; within three weeks the page had 250 “likes”. Due to the advertising users were going to the blog, liking Facebook posts, and communicating… all was right and wonderful in the world.

For the non believers that still don’t think Social Media can make a difference or are just scared to jump in and try it out… I say to you… “Don’t Do It”. We don’t need you out here taking away search engine rankings from our companies by setting up your social media profiles. We don’t want you spreading information about your company, networking, and making friends with our users. We don’t need you connecting with our clients by blogging and sharing your uncanny wit, great personality and using prime keywords that we use to bring people to our sites. We don’t want you on the net reading blogs, getting new ideas about how to share your information.
Nope, we don’t want you on Twitter, Facebook,Hashable, EmpireAvenue, Blogger, WordPress, About.me, LinkedIn, Plaxo and all the other social media websites. Nope leave that to the people who really enjoy talking to our users and sharing useful information to increase their Brand Recognition.
Want to Clean Up Your Personal Search Results?
Due to the fact that I have a great deal of social media profiles set up, 3 or 4 blogs, I post to them regularly as well as comment on several of my colleagues blogs… it would be pretty easy for me to push down the queue of any negative search engine results through my constant engagement on the Internet…. I’m an Internet Marketer with a huge focus Social Media… so knocking down negative results is effortless for me because I share my thoughts on the internet several times a day on several different platforms.
For the average Joe though, negative search results can be haunting. Could you imagine every time you search your name there is that comment with you ranting about something that really irritated you and to make matters worse you used a few choice curse words… That could kill the image you may be trying to portray to a potential employer as well as hurt your chances of landing a job. Employers are looking at you on the Internet so your online representation needs to be clean. You don’t want that one post to pop up every time some one searches for you.
Removing a negative search engine result is close to impossible so don’t even waste your time trying to contact Google, Bing, Yahoo, ETC. “Why?”, you may ask…
“Google will only remove a search result from its queue if you can prove that the web page can be used for identity or credit card theft.” Allie Townsend
Instead, set up a few social media profiles and possibly a blog and start posting regularly. You might think… what can I talk about? For starters you can make posts about your favorite hobby, your job (if you love it), and your family; anything that is positive and will shine a positive light on you. The more you post, the more you will be begin to see those negative search result pushed down in the search queue and your new content, comments and posts will show up on top. It will never disappear but at least you can make it harder for someone to find them.
Side Note:
It also helps to add your name to the end of your blogs and set up profiles with blogs you comment on regularly using your name.

Social Media… It isn’t a Fad… It is the Norm!
If you haven’t already noticed… this social media “Fad” is no longer a Fad and has become the norm.As an Internet Marketer and Social Media Manager it is my job to stay on top of what is happening on social media platforms, blogs and readers. Christmas, New Years, and New Years Day were no exception… I know blasphemous right? I was on my social media platforms ready to share information and engage with those who were interested… but guess what I found… the social media marketers and managers were not the only ones online. I have a Facebook friend base of 1800+, most of which are just friends with no business need to market on social media platforms… and during the holidays they were talking; actually they were talking even more than normal. Maybe it was because they didn’t have to go to work, they were relaxing or enjoying the Holiday Season. I’m not sure but I do know, they were sharing what they were doing, the funny events of the day, sending holiday greetings, and sharing new years resolutions…
In 2010, being social on the Internet has become the norm. Yeah you still have a few Nay Sayers who refuse to get on social networking platforms, who have professed that twitter and Facebook are for kids but more people are now giving social media platforms a second look.Being drawn to these platforms out of curiosity, they want to see what everyone else is talking about. I have spoken to many friends who say they no longer use their email to communicate because it is quicker to connect on social media platforms or to simply send a text.
I think it is a sign of the times when people come to visit my house or office and the question everyone seems to have in common when they get there is, “What is your WEP code?”So with all this said, is tweeting during a family gathering rude or acceptable? Is bringing your laptop, iPad, iPod, or Tablet to a family gathering a bad thing? I say NO.Everyone knows I travel with my laptop, connectivity is important to me. With my family, this is acceptable. It is nothing for you to see at least 3 or 4 laptops open at the table after Christmas Dinner. We get on Facebook, share our photo albums with each other and laugh. Even my oldest Uncle has a Facebook account that he uses regularly… and he is what… at least 70…. lol. (Don’t kill me Uncle David, I really don’t know how old you are but I know you are close). My point is, Social Media Sharing is the norm and as we become an even more social society… don’t be offended when friends and family ask you for your WEP code or you see them using their digital devices. They are just sharing.
